The Bhagwat Mahapuran was composed by the great sage Ved Vyasa, who is also credited with writing the Mahabharata and compiling the Vedas. It is believed that after composing the Mahabharata, Vyasa felt dissatisfied and spiritually restless. Upon seeking guidance from the sage Narada, he was advised to write a scripture that solely glorifies Lord Krishna and promotes devotion (bhakti). This led to the creation of the Shrimad Bhagwat Mahapuran.
The text is written in Sanskrit and consists of 12 skandhas, containing a total of 18,000 verses. These verses are presented in a poetic and narrative style, making the scripture both philosophical and engaging.
