Narayana Suktam

Narayana Suktam is an important part of Vedic literature, found in the tenth chapter of Taittiriya Aranyaka of Yajurveda. This suktam specifically describes the form of Lord Narayana, His majesty and the vastness of His existence. It is considered the heart of the Vedas because it explains the basic elements of the universe, the relationship between the living beings, the world and God.

Purpose of Narayan Suktam

The main purpose of Narayana Suktam is to establish Narayana as the Supreme Being. This suktam states that Narayana is the creator, sustainer and destroyer of all creation. His glory is immeasurable, and He is the foundation of the entire universe. This suktam is recited for meditation, sadhana and self-realization.

tē̠ja̠svinā̠vadhī̍tamastu̠ mā vi̍dviṣā̠vahai̎ ॥
ōṃ śānti̠-śśānti̠-śśānti̍ḥ ॥

[dhā̠tā pu̠rastā̠dyamu̍dāja̠hāra̍ । śa̠kraḥ pravi̠dvān-pra̠diśa̠śchata̍sraḥ ।
tamē̠vaṃ vi̠dvāna̠mṛta̍ i̠ha bha̍vati । nānyaḥ panthā̠ aya̍nāya vidyatē ॥]

ōm ॥ sa̠ha̠sra̠śīr̍​ṣa-ndē̠vaṃ̠ vi̠śvākṣa̍ṃ vi̠śvaśa̍mbhuvam ।
viśva̍-nnā̠rāya̍ṇa-ndē̠va̠ma̠kṣara̍-mpara̠ma-mpa̠dam ।

vi̠śvata̠ḥ para̍mānni̠tya̠ṃ vi̠śva-nnā̍rāya̠ṇagṃ ha̍rim ।
viśva̍mē̠vēda-mpuru̍ṣa̠-stadviśva-mupa̍jīvati ।

pati̠ṃ viśva̍syā̠tmēśva̍ra̠gṃ̠ śāśva̍tagṃ śi̠va-ma̍chyutam ।
nā̠rāya̠ṇa-mma̍hājñē̠ya̠ṃ vi̠śvātmā̍na-mpa̠rāya̍ṇam ।

nā̠rāya̠ṇapa̍rō jyō̠ti̠rā̠tmā nā̍rāya̠ṇaḥ pa̍raḥ ।

yachcha̍ ki̠ñchijja̍gatsa̠rva̠-ndṛ̠śyatē̎ śrūya̠tē-‘pi̍ vā ॥

anta̍rba̠hiścha̍ tatsa̠rva̠ṃ vyā̠pya nā̍rāya̠ṇa-ssthi̍taḥ ।
ananta̠mavyaya̍-ṅka̠vigṃ sa̍mu̠drēṃ-‘ta̍ṃ vi̠śvaśa̍mbhuvam ।

jvā̠la̠mā̠lāku̍la-mbhā̠tī̠ vi̠śvasyā̍yata̠na-mma̍hat ।
santa̍tagṃ śi̠lābhi̍stu̠ lamba̍tyākōśa̠sanni̍bham ।

tasyāntē̍ suṣi̠ragṃ sū̠kṣma-ntasmin̎ sa̠rva-mprati̍ṣṭhitam ।
tasya̠ madhyē̍ ma̠hāna̍gni-rvi̠śvārchi̍-rvi̠śvatō̍mukhaḥ ।

sō-‘gra̍bhu̠gvibha̍janti̠ṣṭha̠-nnāhā̍ramaja̠raḥ ka̠viḥ ।
ti̠rya̠gū̠rdhvama̍dhaśśā̠yī̠ ra̠śmaya̍stasya̠ santa̍tā ।
